About this blog

I'm Ryan Higbea and I'm the Primary Years Program (PYP) Coordinator at Kaposia Education Center in South St. Paul Public Schools. Check out our district's PYP page.

As PYP Coordinator, I have the opportunity to see and hear about wonderful things going on with students. My goal with this blog is to share these stories with the masses: to observe and document best teaching practice in order to connect one good idea to other educators.

On this blog, I strive to do what I did when I wrote my thesis for my MA. To answer the central question of that research study, I used Descriptive Research Design, a qualitative research methodology. The purpose of this methodology is to accurately describe a situation or a phenomenon (Johnson & Christensen, 2008, p. 377). I used this methodology to answer the question “what is”. Descriptive research is most appropriate when exploring a new topic before diving deeper (Shuttleworth, 2008).

My hope is that you will read the stories here and will be inspired to "dive deeper" into the instructional strategies described. If you do, please let me know how it went.
